Quando è nata Apex Snowboard?
Il brand Apex Snowboards è nato 4 anni fa. Ma l’idea di costruire tavole da snowboard è partita circa 7 anni fa. Peter e io siamo dei veri snowboarder nonché amici da molto tempo! Quando abbiamo iniziato, non avremmo mai potuto immaginare cosa sarebbe stato possibile fare.

Dov’è il vostro quartier generale? E’ nello stesso posto in cui producete le tavole?
E’ tutto nello stesso posto. Il paese è Hollersbach (Austria), vicino a Kaprun (ghiacciaio di Kitzsteunhorn). La nostra ditta non è paragonabile alle altre, siamo in un piccolo complesso ma con molti lavoratori. Abbiamo una piccola fabbrica. Le nostre tavole sono fatte a mano dall’inizio alla fine. Per questo riusciamo a garantire e controllare il lavoro con il massimo della qualità.

Producete solo tavole custom-made oppure anche tavole per il mercato di massa?
La nostra produzione è focalizzata principalmente sulla produzione custom-made, ma offriamo anche delle tavole ad edizione limitata. Non proprio tavole per il mercato “di massa”. Siamo sempre alla ricerca di veri negozi di snowboard in cui vendere le nostre tavole.

Che materiali usate per la produzione? Che tipo di legno o elementi in carbonio?
In tutti questi anni abbiamo provato differenti componenti. I nostri high-end snowboard hanno una tipica “sandwich-construction” col cuore in legno al 100%, dal nose al tail. Costruiamo noi l’anima in legno, usiamo materiali di alta qualità come fibra di vetro, strati di carbonio e altri componenti segreti!

Usate tecnologie e materiali particolari per le tavole da gara?
Certo. Le tavole alpine e quelle da boardercross hanno elevati requisiti tecnici. Usiamo degli inserti in titanal e altri materiali speciali che abbiamo testato nel corso degli anni.

Cosa pensi delle nuove tecnologie usate da molte case di snowboard (es. camber inverso ecc)?
Quasi tutte le ditte di snowboard hanno un modello a camber inverso nella loro produzione, noi pensiamo che questo non sia positivo per lo snowboard moderno. Se ami la velocità, le curve in fresca e qualche carvata in pista è molto importante che usi una tavola dallo spigolo efficace. Questo vale anche in park, in pipe o nei Big Air.

Solo 3 brand la fanno da padrone in Coppa del Mondo: SG, KESSLER e APEX. Quali sono i segreti e le differenze?
Bisognerebbe chiederlo ai rider! A dire il vero non ci preoccupiamo molto delle altre compagnie e delle loro caratteristiche. I nostri rider e i nostri clienti hanno la possibilità di dire la loro nella produzione della loro stessa tavola, dall’inizio alla fine. Ottengono una tavola fatta su misura, servizio completo, dalla firma alla struttura, tutto ciò che vogliono. La flessibilità è uno dei nostri punti di forza!

Qual è il miglior risultato ottenuto dai vostri atleti in gare internazionali?
E’ la nostra terza stagione nelle gare FSI di Coppa del Mondo. Abbiamo qualche buon risultato nella nostra lista. Abbiamo vinto per due volte la Coppa del Mondo: 06/07 Doresia (Krings),  08/09 Doris (Günther) e anche nelle discipline alpine la Coppa del Mondo nel 06/07. Inoltre la Coppa del Mondo Junior e molte vittorie nelle gare europee. Ma la cosa migliore è che gli atleti che usano le nostre tavole sono sempre soddisfatti. Ecco perché costruiamo tavole da snowboard!

Chi è il vostro miglior atleta?
Ora è Doris (Günther), ma tutti i nostri rider sono dei talenti, specialmente i giovani che si stanno facendo largo come Andi (Fritzenwanker). Il suo stile è entusiasmante.

When was Apex Snowboard born?
The brand Apex Snowboards was born 4 years ago. The idea of building snowboards started about 7 years ago. Peter and I are true snowboarders and friends for a long time! When we started we could not imagine what is possible.

Where is your headquarter? Is it the same place of the production spot?
It’s  all at the same spot. The village name is Hollersbach. It’s near Kaprun (Kitzsteinhorn glacier). Our  manufacture is not like comparable with other companies. There isn’t a big complex with lots of workers. We have a small factory. Our boards are handcrafted from the beginning to the end. So we are able to control maximum quality.

Do you produce only custom-made boards or also boards for the mass-market?
Custom-made production is our main focus. But we also offer limited Board editions. Not really for the mass market. We are searching for true Snowboard shops for selling our boards.

What kind of materials do you use? What kind of wood or carbon elements?
All over the years we try a lot of different things. Our qualitative high-end snowboard are all build with sandwich construction with 100% woodcore from tip to tail. We build all our woodcores by our own. We use only high quality glass, and carbon layers, and also a lot of other components. The same in base materials- his is an very important part. Further details are our secret!!

Do you use different technologies and materials for the race boards?
For sure. Alpin boards and Boardercross boards have “high” technical requirements. We use Titanal and other special materials. Which we tested all over the years.

What do you think about the new technologies used by the main snowboard companies (ex. Reverse camber, ecc)?
Nearly all companies have this reverse camber thing in their programs. We think this is not positive for modern snowboarding. If you love speedy turns in powder and some carving on slope to it’s important that you use an board with according effective edge. Also in park, pipe or riding Big Air kickers. 

Only 3 snowboard brands are used in the World Cup: SG, KESSLER and APEX. What are the main features and differences of each?
Just ask some riders…We don’t care about other companies and their features. Our riders and customers are able to be a part in the production of their boards. From the beginning to the end. They get an exact customized snowboard. With full service. From id signature to race structure. Everything they want. Flexibility is one of our strengths!!!!

What were the best results obtained by your athletes in the international competitions?
This was our third season in FIS Worldcup. We have a lot of cool results on our list. We won two times overall World Cup titles: 06/07 Doresia (Krings), 08/09 Doris (Günther). Also discipline alpine worldcup in 06/07. Junior world champions and a lot world cup plus europa cup victories. But the best thing is that people who rides our APEX snowboards are satisfied. That’s the reason why we build snowboards!!!

Who’s your main athlete?   
Right know it’s maybe Doris (Günther), but all of our riders are talented snowboarders and awesome riders!!! Especially our upcoming rookies like Andi (fritzenwanker). His style is inspiring!!!
